About this qualification
The Advanced Façade Consultant Certificate is an intensive three-month structured learning programme developed for experienced construction professionals who wish to specialise in the design, assessment, inspection and consultancy of building façades. As façades have become increasingly complex, the demand for competent professionals capable of advising on performance, compliance and quality has grown significantly across the construction industry.
This programme provides an in-depth understanding of the principles governing modern façade systems, combining technical knowledge with practical inspection techniques and current regulatory requirements. Delegates will examine the complete lifecycle of façade projects, from concept design and specification through procurement, installation, inspection, remediation and long-term asset management.
The course explores a wide range of façade systems, including rainscreen cladding, curtain walling, brick-slip systems, insulated render systems, masonry façades, glazed façades, timber cladding, metal panel systems, stone cladding and hybrid envelope solutions. Delegates will develop an understanding of how different materials perform under varying environmental conditions and how design decisions influence durability, fire safety, thermal efficiency and long-term maintenance.
A significant focus is placed on the UK regulatory framework, including the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations, the Construction Products Regulations, the Building Safety Regulator, competency requirements, product conformity and the importance of maintaining the Golden Thread of Information throughout a building's lifecycle.
Fire safety forms a core element of the programme. Delegates will examine external fire spread, cavity barriers, fire stopping interfaces, material classifications, façade remediation, inspection methodologies and lessons learned from major industry failures. The course also addresses moisture management, condensation risk, thermal bridging, airtightness, acoustic performance, structural movement, wind loading and weather resistance.
Practical learning includes façade inspections, defect identification, condition surveys, quality assurance procedures, specification reviews, installation monitoring, photographic recording, report writing and remediation planning. Delegates will study real-life case studies involving façade failures, remediation programmes and successful project delivery, enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations.
Throughout the programme, emphasis is placed on the role of the façade consultant within multidisciplinary project teams. Delegates will learn how to advise clients, architects, engineers, contractors, developers and building owners, providing technically sound recommendations while ensuring compliance with current legislation, industry standards and best practice.
The structured learning format combines guided study, tutor-led workshops, practical assignments, case studies, technical reading, online learning resources and workplace-based application, allowing delegates to build specialist knowledge over a three-month period.
