About this NVQ course

The Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Management is designed for construction professionals who are already working in a site-management role and wish to gain formal recognition of their occupational competence.

The qualification is completed within a real working environment. Candidates demonstrate how they plan, manage, monitor and coordinate construction activities while maintaining high standards of health and safety, quality, environmental performance and project control.

Planning and preparing construction sites Monitoring project activities and progress Managing health, safety, welfare and wellbeing Controlling project quality and agreed programmes Managing construction costs and quantities Coordinating materials, plant, equipment and resources Managing temporary works Monitoring environmental factors and sustainability Establishing effective communication systems Managing teams and monitoring individual performance Developing productive workplace relationships Evaluating work methods and project requirements Managing personal and professional development Completing a relevant optional specialist unit

The qualification does not require candidates to attend a traditional full-time course. Instead, each learner works with an occupationally competent assessor to develop a portfolio of evidence based on their normal site-management responsibilities.

This makes the programme particularly suitable for experienced site managers who possess substantial practical knowledge but have not previously gained a formal management qualification.

Entry requirements

There are no formal academic entry requirements. However, applicants must:

Be aged 19 or over Be employed in a suitable construction site-management role Have sufficient responsibility for managing construction activities, people, resources, quality, safety and project progress Have access to an active construction site and suitable workplace evidence Be able to demonstrate competence across the required qualification units Be supported by their employer or workplace where access to documents, observations or witness testimony is required

Before enrolment, an initial assessment will be completed to confirm that the applicant’s job role, experience and responsibilities provide sufficient opportunities to meet the qualification requirements.

This qualification is not suitable for someone who is not currently undertaking appropriate construction site-management duties.

Assessment

How you will be assessed

Assessment is completed through a portfolio of workplace evidence demonstrating the candidate’s knowledge, skills and competence.

Evidence may include:

Construction programmes and progress records Site plans and project documentation Risk assessments and method statements Health and safety records Quality inspections and reports Site meeting minutes Cost, resource and material records Photographs and videos of workplace activities Witness testimonies from suitable workplace professionals Assessor observations Professional discussions Written or recorded knowledge questions Reflective accounts and explanations of decisions made

There is no single final examination. Assessment takes place throughout the programme, and candidates must demonstrate that they have satisfied all required performance and knowledge criteria.

Candidates may also progress to the Level 7 NVQ Diploma in Construction Senior Management or another higher-level qualification in construction management.

The qualification can support an application for the CSCS Black Manager Card, provided the candidate also passes the relevant CITB Managers and Professionals Health, Safety and Environment Test and satisfies the current CSCS application requirements. CSCS Manager Card requirements
